I was born Cedric Weatherly. Most people just call me Ced. I grew up in Brimingham, Alabama, and have lived here forever! I graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design. Now I'm attending Virginia College for a degree in Web Development. I have been associated with art since High school. I attended a fine arts high school, which looks like a prison by the way, called The Alabama School of Fine Arts. I'm very surprised I came out of that school as normal as I am because it was a goth-kid infestation. Now I'm trying to learn everything I can in web design so I can get paid with benefit!!!
Art is something you can learn but something you cannot be taught. If you are a student of art or someone that is very creative, you were probably taught all the basic techniques and origins of long gone art and artists. However, true art isn't taught, due to how subjective it is. Art is like all of Brad Pitts love interests. One day it's Jennifer Anniston, the next it's Angelina Jolie. Blah, blah, blah!
I grew up loving to draw and paint. High school served as my testing grounds for how serious I can take art. I honed my skills there until I got to Auburn University. There I was introduced to digital art - Graphic Design. I can draw and paint, but this was something new. Something a little more interesting; something that would challenge me. I always thought about the future and where my interests lie. Even in high school I tried to create digital paintings using Photoshop 5! We were offered a small course in photoshop that only me and 3 or 4 other cats in my class took. Anyways, I cannot tell which I like more. I like drawing and painting, but at my high school the fun of a "hobby" was sucked dry of excitement and into something more of routine. Honestly I wanted to get into Animation or some Video program. Yet, Auburn didn't offer anything like that, so I was stuck with Graphic Design. I think "stuck" is a harsh word in this case. But I like what I do either way. I probably wouldn't like animation if I went that direction, who knows!
I think both have their pros and cons. I can be more free form with paintings or drawings. Mistakes are easily dressed up to be part of the artwork. I can also be a lot more playful in painting or drawing than graphic design. However, graphic design is the wave of the future. I can make a hell of a lot more money doing graphic design. Also graphic design is a lot easier to execute.
